Its A Wonderful Life

Nearly seventy years after the release of Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life, producers at Star Partners and Hummingbird Prods. are working together on a sequel, smartly subtitled, The Rest of the Story. (What’s the opposite of ‘fast-tracked’?)

According to Variety, the producers hope to get the picture into cinemas for Christmas 2015.

It will concern the grandson of the original George Bailey, an unlikeable fellow who’ll be shown “how much better off the world would have been had he never been born.”

The twists on the first film don’t end there: Karolyn Grimes, who played Bailey’s daughter Zuzu back in 1946, will appear as the angel who instigates this Christmas Carol-esque adventure.

Grimes’ last film appearance was in 1952’s Hans Christian Anderson, if we’re not counting the archive footage of her in Menace II Society.

A number of other original cast-members have been approached about starring in this sequel, provided they are still alive.

Those fearing a sacred cow being led to the slaughter, take heed in this sage reminder from the New York Post’s Lou Lumenick, who Tweeted, “Don’t worry, IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE sequel not gonna happen. Rights hopelessly tangled, as those behind 1980s Broadway musical discovered.”
